How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture therapy uses micro-thin disposable sterile needles that are gently inserted into carefully selected acupuncture points. These points are found along defined pathways, "meridians", that run throughout the body. Health is optimized when blood and energy, known as "Qi", circulate smoothly through these pathways. When blood circulation and Qi flow is interrupted or blocked, illness, pain, fatigue, emotional imbalance, and other problems may result. With the stimulation of acupuncture points, blood circulation is regulated, Qi flow is returned, and health is restored.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture needles are extremely thin and are designed to be virtually painless. Most patients report feeling no discomfort at all. Common sensations include a feeling of light pressure, subtle internal movement, and warmth.

How long are treatments and what should I expect?
Initial treatments are an hour and a half. Follow up treatments are an hour. The session starts with a discussion of current health and health history. We will go over your chief complaint, health concerns and goals, as well as any questions you may have. Treatments are tailored to each patient individually, as the theory goes - "one disease...many treatments." Each treatment includes acupuncture, relaxation, and any additional techniques that are appropriate.
How many treatments will I need?
Each person is unique and requires an individualized treatment plan. The length of treatment depends on the type, severity, and duration of the condition. Generally speaking, for every year a condition has existed, a month of regular treatments is required. I suggest that first time patients commit to three treatments to fully experience the benefits of acupuncture!
